Exchanges, Rememberances, St. Pat's Day and UFO's

Chatelaine designed by Linda Driskell My UFO -
Motive 22
I began this project shortly after moving to New Mexico in 2005. It is one of my first large projects. The strap is long enough to be around the neck and the scissor case/thimble case and needle case, shuttle pocket (not pictured) will be attached. This is for my daughter Kristen who is my student tatter; she is an excellent seamstress and crochets, too. She will line the scissor bag with lavender moire and I will use matching lavender and make a scissor fob/tassel also. The thimble bag needs its little 'cap'. I will present this to her when we go on our trip to the Shuttlebirds Tatting Workshop in Spokane (April 18 - 19).

Nancy Tracy Design: I tatted this bookmark to send to my cousin Peggy in Iowa. Valdini size 8 thread. This is motive #21 for the 25/challenge. It was tucked into her St. Patrick's Day card.

Zena Herbert's Design - Artistic Ear rings from The Sea of Dreams in Moracambe, England. I wish I could just 'pop into' her shoppe and give her a surprise hug - one of these days

Long Awaited Box arrives. I'd ordered a beautiful matching purse/fascinator from Zena's Sea of Dreams in the UK. Zena is a good friend and she tucked in a surprise. The plus is that she shared her pattern with me - She also sent a vase cover that is a good project for beginners. I'll put that up later. Very talented, articulate lady - I am pleased to be called her friend. I wore them all day when they arrived.
I have been thinking of ways to preserve rememberances; and, also ways to preserve the tatting exchange pieces. I thought of framing, and that works. However, I'm flirting with an idea of making tatted samplers. I could make one for the Exchanges and another for the pieces I'm collecting from Tatters that I know - some have sent me pieces, such as Sharon's heart - and I have pieces from Marilee and BobtheBike that need scanning. When available I buy tatted pieces from designer's, as well as their pattern books, that I've come to know and admire. It would be nice for there to be a collection of tatting from those whose work we admired and were our contemporaries. Certainly worth thinking about - Do you have special ways to honor and keep the pieces that have been given to you? Of course, my tree from Bob is in a beautiful oval-shaped, domed glass piece and stands on its own! and ear rings? Well, I wear those!

A rememberance from Sharon Briggs of Ontario, Canada
Tatted with Gutterman Sewing Thread. This is so fine and dainty and was attached to a scripture book mark with a note - a real treasure!

February Tatting Exchange:
From Rachel Jackson, my partner. Rachel is a designer, artist who uses cabachon and threads in a unique way. She also teaches and does demonstrations. A very attractive young woman who tats! We share the love for the same threads - Marilee's HDT and Tracy at SewThankful (here in NM) King Tut. I received this heart tatted with size 8 DMC Pearl cotton. Vintage Button with Vintage celluloid rose. This is Rachel's own pattern. I think she got the worst of this exchange as mine was late and done while I had the flu, and well - needed a little 'finishing'. I really should apologize. I did like the two smaller hearts that I sent with the larger heart; but, the larger heart really needed more attention. In my haste, sent it off without a scan! (sigh)

Now this is a beautiful heart by Rachel Jackson of Pineywoods!
