SSSSummer brings ssssnakes!

Designer: Dianna Stevens I tatted this snake with size 20 threads. Body: Lizbeth, Desert Bloom; and head, HDT Aqua from Rainbow Brite solids by Pamela Meyer. Tatted for
Anthony Pelligrino, age 13.

Fortunately, I have not seen any snakes as yet! Last year there was a small snake in the carport but I understand it was 'endangered' ~ by my DH's square point shovel. He hates snakes!

I'm ambivalent about snakes. The initiation into the fourth grade at Bullhead City, AZ (1945) included a student inserting a small king snake into your lift-top desk. If you yelled, or screamed you were labeled a "powder puff." Well, when I pulled out the snake instead of the book I was reaching for, I didn't let go... I didn't scream. WORSE I sped out of the schoolroom, which held all 8 grades, across the school yard, and to my home. . .unfortunately I still had the wiggly snake firmly in my little fist! Mom opened the door....and....closed it in my face. I could hear the muffled voice, "put it down, put it down." But I didn't, I kept it as a pet! So they lost their 'initiation' snake...and had to come up with a new initiation rite. Sliding down the rocky bank behind the school on a piece of corrugated aluminum!

In memory of the incident and because our Pastor's boy, Anthony, is a snake fancier I tatted a snake (Animal Bookmarks: A Tatted Zoo ~ Dianna Stevens, HandyHands). I will give it to Anthony next Sunday ~ with the promise NOT to frighten his toddler sister with it ~ I know boys all too well! Anthony BTW adores his little sister, Faith.

Great story! I happen to like snakes a lot. The tatted piece is terrific for a little boy - and how great is it that you can give a child a tatted little something and it will be appreciated! A snake...... who woulda' guessed!
Fox : )
ps. I like the use of Desert Bloom in this piece....

You have inspired me, Bev! I should tat this snake to send to youngest son's girlfriend who is a nurse - they are in a very remote location, at the tip of Northern Queensland, and ever since the floods earlier this year, snakes have abounded. They regularly slither into the little hospital, I think Kate would prefer the tatted variety!

Very nice snake -- my favorite kind: FLAT. You certainly found a good use for Desert Bloom!

cute snake! Diane makes such cute patterns. She has another book coming out 'sometime'. Not sure when, but it has a pattern of mine in it. Great job on the little ssssssssnake.
BTW, I like snakes. Rebel and I look for a baby one in the yard every day! heehee...

Oh yes! I bet Rebel does look for little snakes in the garden...and goes to ground! He is a splendid dog...love it that he allows him self to be 'en costume' I tried dressing our 'boy' Yorkie once. He laid down flat on the ground and looked as me like, "mayday, mayday" I'd bought him a rain slicker when he was young; because the worse the weather with wind and rain, the happier he was. But he would not wear his 'raingear'...
Jaime was a great ratter...he was larger than Sara ~ he weighed a whole 6 pounds! LOL
I hope NOT to see the local snake around here as it's a black rattlesnake that stands up like those with hooded heads...Very eeery to see 4 ft of snake standing! Let's just say I'd rather see them first....

hugs, Bev
